10 Scriptural Declarations to Speak Over Yourself

I'm going to say something that may shock you. What we experience of our "sinfulness" is actually just an echo of the old nature that has passed away. The old is dead and gone and the new has come! Yet so many of us walk around carrying identities that no longer fit who we are in Christ.

What allowed me to finally believe the truth about my identity was wrestling with the idea that on my own, I'm not worthy of His love. But still, He loves me. Still, He chose the ultimate sacrifice and died for me because He wanted to have a relationship with me. It was always His design from the beginning to be in an intimate relationship with me, and with you.

The Power of Declaring Truth

There's something supernatural that happens when we open our mouths and declare God's truth over our lives. The words we speak aren't just sounds echoing in a room - they're powerful tools that can either build up or tear down our faith. When we take the scripture - God's living, active Word - and speak it over ourselves, we're engaging in a supernatural process that transcends the natural.

This isn't about positive thinking or self-help mantras. This is about rightly dividing the Word of truth and allowing the Holy Spirit to renew our minds with what God says is true about us. It's about taking every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) and replacing the murky waters of our old mindsets with the crystal-clear truth of our identity in Christ.

These scriptural declarations aren't magic words that instantly change your circumstances. But they are bedrock truths that can shift everything about how you see yourself and your relationship with God. The key is partnering your faith with the words as you speak them out.

10 Declarations That Can Transform Your Identity

1. "I am a new creation in Christ Jesus."

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." - 2 Corinthians 5:17

This isn't just poetic language. This is spiritual reality. When you came to Christ, you didn't just get an upgraded version of your old self - you received a completely new nature. The old has literally passed away.

When you wake up feeling like the same old person with the same old struggles, declare this truth: "I am a new creation in Christ Jesus. My old nature is dead and gone. I have been given His divine nature."

2. "I am the righteousness of God in Christ."

"For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." - 2 Corinthians 5:21

If there's one thing I want you to grab hold of today, it's this: you are not just forgiven - you have been made righteous. Not by your own efforts or good deeds, but by what Jesus accomplished on the cross.

Speak this over yourself daily: "I am the righteousness of God in Christ. I don't have to strive for acceptance. I've been made righteous by His sacrifice."

3. "I have the mind of Christ."

"But we have the mind of Christ." - 1 Corinthians 2:16

We've been given this incredible gift - the very thought patterns of Jesus Himself. When anxiety, fear, or negative thinking tries to take root, remind yourself that those thoughts aren't coming from the mind of Christ within you.

Declare boldly: "I have the mind of Christ. I think His thoughts. His wisdom, discernment, and peace are mine."

4. "I am loved with an everlasting love."

"I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you." - Jeremiah 31:3

Performance-based love is believing that in order to be loved and accepted, you have to do something, that you can earn love. And that just really isn't love. God's love for you isn't based on your performance. It doesn't fluctuate depending on whether you had a "good Christian day" or not.

Say this out loud: "I am loved with an everlasting love. Nothing I do or don't do can change God's love for me. His love is my firm foundation."

5. "I am seated with Christ in heavenly places."

"And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus." - Ephesians 2:6

What is your reality based on? Is it a heavenly reality where it says that we're seated in heavenly places with God? When we look at our lives from God's perspective, we see beyond our current circumstances to the spiritual reality of who we are and the battle that's at hand. This declaration reminds us that we can view our situations from above rather than being trapped in them.

Declare this truth: "I am seated with Christ in heavenly places. I have a heavenly perspective on my earthly circumstances. I see my life through God's eyes, not just my own."

6. "I have been given His divine nature."

"Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires." - 2 Peter 1:4

We've been given His divine nature. The Holy Spirit isn't simply somebody we check in with every once in a while. He has completely transformed who we are at our core. This isn't just a theological concept—it's the supernatural reality of what happens when we come into relationship with Christ.

Speak this truth: "I have been given His divine nature. I am no longer bound by my old patterns and desires. I participate in God's nature through the power of His Spirit within me."

7. "The enemy has no power over me."

"We know that everyone who has been born of God does not sin, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him." - 1 John 5:18

The reason why we seem to not understand that the enemy can't touch us is because we haven't grown up into realizing "he has nothing in me." You have been washed by the blood. You are free from sin and you are free from its power over you. The accuser can't come against you with his accusations because Christ's blood speaks a better word over your life.

Declare boldly: "The enemy has no power over me. He cannot touch my life, my family, or my future. Christ protects me, and there is nothing in me that gives Satan a foothold."

8. "I have unshakable joy as my foundation."

"Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength." - Nehemiah 8:10

Joy is not simply a feeling. It's the bedrock of our emotional landscape. When we stop attaching our joy to circumstances, to relationships, and it becomes rooted in God being with us then we discover that His joy truly becomes our strength through every season.

Speak this over yourself: "I have unshakable joy as my foundation. My circumstances don't determine my joy—my relationship with Christ does. His joy is my strength even in life's hardest moments."

9. "God's plans for me are for good."

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." - Jeremiah 29:11

When we're walking through challenging seasons, it's easy to question whether God has abandoned us or if His plans have changed. But His promises remain steadfast.

Speak this over your uncertain circumstances: "God's plans for me are good. Even when I can't see the full picture, I trust that He is working all things together for my good."

10. "I am free from the power of sin."

"For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace." - Romans 6:14

This is good news! You're no longer in a wrestling match against sin. Addiction has no claim on the children of God, and old sin patterns have been broken by the blood. His grace has made this possible.

Declare your freedom: "Sin has no dominion over me. I am not a slave to my old patterns. In Christ, I have been set free to live in righteousness."

Practical Ways to Incorporate Scriptural Declarations

Renewing your mind with God's truth isn't a one-time event - it's a daily choice to partner with what He says about you rather than what your feelings or circumstances might suggest. Here are some practical ways to make these declarations part of your daily life:

  1. Start your day with declarations: Before checking your phone or getting caught up in the day's demands, speak 2-3 of these truths over yourself.

  2. Create visual reminders: Write these declarations on sticky notes and place them where you'll see them throughout the day.

  3. Use moments of doubt as triggers: When you feel inadequate, unworthy, or afraid, let those feelings become triggers to speak truth over yourself.

  4. Pray them back to God: Turn these declarations into prayers, thanking God for who He has made you to be in Christ.

  5. Journal about them: Take time to write about how these truths are changing your perspective and experiences.

When It Feels Hard to Believe

If you're in that place where you don't fully believe that God loves you, know that His word is true and His love for you is real. The more you press in and declare the truth of His love over you instead of giving up and settling in with that lie, the more you will come to experience His tangible love. Pray and declare to Him, "I thank you Lord that even when I don't feel Your love, Your love surrounds me. You have given me the mind of Christ, so that I can understand and experience Your love to the fullest. Reveal Yourself to me in a deeper way. Reveal Your love to me in ways that are tangible and undeniable. I thank You that I know You and am known by You and that You are opening my eyes and ears to experience You as a friend, as my Father, and as the One who holds my heart."

Sometimes the declarations that feel hardest to believe are the ones we need to speak most consistently. Just as faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17), our own faith grows stronger as we hear ourselves speak God's truth.

A Foundation That Cannot Be Shaken

When we stop attaching our joy to circumstances and start building on the foundation of who God is and who He says we are, we discover something profound: unshakable joy. This isn't a fleeting happiness that comes and goes with life's ups and downs. It's a bedrock of joy that remains steady even when everything else is shifting.

I encourage you today to choose one or two of these declarations that resonate most with your current season. Speak them over yourself daily for the next week and watch how the Lord begins to seal these truths in your heart.

Remember, your emotions don't have to control you because your foundation is in Christ. That's the supernatural process that transcends the natural - and it's available to you right now.
